Healing Touch evolves with Integrative Health
Since opening in 2007, Healing Touch Massage Clinic has been on a mission to provide compassionate, high-quality massage therapy services to improve the health and wellbeing of all our clients.
The future is now. Times have changed, new sciences are being discovered at a record breaking speed. The VA Community Care Network (CNN) is here to work for you in this community.
“Health care services provided through CCN include medical, behavioral health, surgical, dental services and complementary and integrative health services (CIHS). CIHS includes biofeedback, hypnotherapy, massage therapy, Native American healing, relaxation techniques and tai chi. Other services include dialysis, comprehensive rehabilitation, residential care, home-health care, hospice care, dental, immunizations and long-term acute care. Durable medical equipment (DME) and prescription medications (up to a 14-day supply) may be provided for immediate needs. Veterans must be authorized by VA to obtain services through CCN.”
That’s where a partnership of conscious collaborators in the Sioux Falls area came together to make advanced wellness changes for Veterans locally, and hopefully nationally.
With the opening of a second Healing Touch Massage Clinic, to be known publicly as Healing Touch Wellness, located on 26th and Ellis Road, the benefits of whole person wellness are working in tandem for both service professionals and clients from all cultures and of all ages.
So, what’s Integrative Health? Check out this great article from the National Center of Complementary and Integrative Health.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
Complementary Versus Alternative
“According to a 2012 national survey, many Americans—more than 30 percent of adults and about 12 percent of children—use health care approaches that are not typically part of conventional medical care or that may have origins outside of usual Western practice. When describing these approaches, people often use “alternative” and “complementary” interchangeably, but the two terms refer to different concepts:
- If a non-mainstream approach is used together with conventional medicine, it’s considered “complementary.”
- If a non-mainstream approach is used in place of conventional medicine, it’s considered “alternative.”
Many people who use non-mainstream approaches also use conventional health care.”
Where does ‘Integrative Health’ fit?
“Integrative health brings conventional and complementary approaches together in a coordinated way. Integrative health also emphasizes multimodal interventions; which are two or more interventions such as conventional health care approaches (like medication, physical rehabilitation, psychotherapy), and complementary health approaches (like acupuncture, yoga, and probiotics) in various combinations, with an emphasis on treating the whole person rather than, for example, one organ system. Integrative health aims for well-coordinated care among different providers and institutions by bringing conventional and complementary approaches together to care for the whole person.”
